The long history of bonsai gardening plants

If you were to trace the history of bonsai gardening plants you will find mention of this art as far back as the Egyptian era some 2000 years ago. Historians report that Indians were growing miniature versions of certain useful trees so that they could easily carry them around. The Chinese created bonsai as we know it today around 700 AD.

During that period the Japanese, who felt that all good things came from China, borrowed the principles of bonsai gardening plants and applied the Chinese technique to perfection in Japan christening thier new plants as bonsai.

For many centuries the beauty and grace of this peculiar art remained confined to Japan. It was not until the 17th century that the remainder of the world began to take notice of the bonsai gardening plant. In 1878 Japan took the world by storm when it held its bonsai exhibition and ever since people from all over the world have been curious to know the secrets and the art of bonsai.

There are two major types of bonsai. The first is the tropical bonsai, also known as the indoor bonsai, that adapts heartily to summer and its scarcity of water by gathering moisture in its roots. This does however make it extremely vulnerable to frost during bad winters. The second type is the temperature bonsai.

Generally speaking, the bonsai is an outdoor plant. However, there are a number of plants that benefit from the shelter provided indoors. These are the types of plants that are specially grown for looking good indoors. One example is the fichus tree, which always needs to be protected from the cold.

Whether you keep one indoors or outdoors, a bonsai gardening plant will improve your understanding of how alive a plant can be so. These plants almost interact with you on of a daily basis as they need constant attention in the form of watering, feeding, pruning and shaping. While growing a bonsai gardening plant you will almost learn to love it like one of your children. The sheer satisfaction that people get from successfully growing a bonsai cannot be put into words. The fact that it takes some three to seven years to grow a bonsai gardening plant into a good size and shape, makes this a time consuming hobby but one loved by many.
